Buying basics
Decants, testers and sealed bottles: what you actually get
Search for almost any perfume in the UAE and three words appear next to it: decant, tester and sealed. They describe very different things, at very different prices, and the difference matters when the parcel arrives.
This guide explains each one, says plainly what King Rox sells, and helps you choose the right one for where you are with a fragrance.
A sealed bottle is the brand’s retail product
A sealed original bottle is exactly what the brand ships to shops: the glass bottle, the sprayer and cap, the printed box, and the cellophane or seal on that box, all untouched. The volume on the label, 50 mL, 100 mL, sometimes 200 mL, is the full amount inside.
It is the most expensive way to own a fragrance, and the right one when you already know you love it. On King Rox a sealed bottle is listed as “Original” on the product page and arrives in the manufacturer’s packaging. It never goes through our decanting process.
A tester is a brand bottle made for the counter
Testers are made by the brand for shops to spray in store. The fragrance inside is the same, but the packaging is not: usually a plain white or brown box, often no cap, and “Tester” or “Not for sale” printed on the bottle. Many retailers sell them on at a discount, which is where the confusion starts.
A tester is still a full-size bottle, so it is a commitment. It also carries no guarantee about how it was stored on the counter before it reached you. King Rox does not sell testers: our catalogue is made up of sealed original bottles and our own decants, nothing in between.
A decant is a measured amount taken from a genuine bottle
A decant is a small, measured portion of fragrance transferred from an original bottle into a smaller atomizer. It exists so you can wear a perfume properly, for days or weeks, before deciding on a full bottle, or simply carry a favourite without the weight of the original.
Every King Rox decant is prepared by hand in Al Ain from a genuine bottle we bought from the brand’s authorised UAE distributor. Wearing gloves, we remove the spray head, attach a needle-free transfer adapter and draw the exact amount into a fresh King Rox atomizer. Nothing is mixed, diluted or added. The atomizer is labelled with the fragrance, the size and a batch number that traces it back to the source bottle, then packed in its presentation box.
You receive the decant only. The original bottle is pictured on the product page so you can identify the fragrance, and it stays with us to supply further decants.
What arrives with a decant order
- A labelled King Rox atomizer holding 3 mL, 5 mL or 10 mL of the named fragrance.
- The King Rox presentation box, inside discreet outer packaging.
- The batch number on the label, so the decant can always be traced to its source bottle.

Which one should you buy?
A simple rule: if you have never worn the fragrance for a full day, start with 3 mL. If you have and you liked it, 10 mL carries you through a month of regular wear while you decide on the bottle. The product page shows every size that is in stock, with the price per size, so you can compare.

How you know a King Rox decant is genuine
Three things, all of which you can check. First, the source: we buy from the brand’s authorised UAE distributor and keep the invoices. Second, the batch: every label carries a batch number tied to the specific bottle it came from. Third, independence: we are not affiliated with any fragrance brand, our packaging is our own, and our labels name the fragrance to identify it, not to suggest the brand made the decant.
If a price for a “sealed” bottle looks too good, or a “decant” comes with no label, size or source, those are the questions to ask whoever is selling it.
Common questions
Is a decant the same as a sample?
A brand sample is a tiny vial the brand gives away, usually 1–2 mL, and is not for sale. A King Rox decant is a measured 3 mL, 5 mL or 10 mL prepared by us from a genuine bottle, labelled and sold as our own product.
Do decants smell different from the bottle?
No. The liquid is the same; only the container changes. Wear it on skin for a full day and you are testing the fragrance exactly as a bottle would wear.
Can I buy the original bottle later?
Yes, when it is in stock. Many product pages list the sealed original next to the decant sizes, and the batch on your decant tells you which bottle it came from.
Start with a decant.
Choose any fragrance in the shop, pick 3 mL, 5 mL or 10 mL, and wear it before you commit.
